Trendwatch: What to Expect at CES 2018
The retail feel of the Linksys space at CES in 2016 was marked by high ceilings and opulent style. For 2017, residential elements such as living plants, bookshelves and tables lent a homelike feel. Other components such as lower floating ceilings resembling the shape of a residential roofline help put visitors in their comfort zone.
Every year, anticipation builds in the months leading up to CES. What will the cool brands do this year? Which design trends from years past will be “so last year”? It’s not quite the red carpet, but pretty close. Dimension Design has been a fixture at CES for more than a decade, so we have a few predictions as to what you can expect to see this January.
Trends to watch for at CES 2018:
- Fewer walls and enclosed spaces
- Less clutter, more simplicity
- Products displayed in their natural settings
In addition, we expect to see more homelike spaces that encourage attendees to let their guard down and collaborate:
- Light fixtures
- Wood walls and flooring
- Warm colors
Why? The majority of people are most comfortable in the two places where they spend most of their time — in their homes and their offices — so we expect that home-inspired designs will be more prevalent in 2018. Look for vignettes with all the comforts of home on the uptick.
Take CES, for example. With more than 4,000 exhibitors, visitors can take great pleasure in being able to lean back on a couch and kick up their feet after walking the floor for countless hours. Hence the Linksys design transformation example above.
